Apple Crisp.

Posted on: January 24, 2010

Sadly I didn’t manage to get a photo of this while it was being served with the french vanilla ice cream so this will have to suffice.

5 apples (i used green)
3 T sugar (i use white granulated unless otherwise specified)
2 t cinnamon (split between filling & topping)
1 1/3 c flour
1 1/2 c brown sugar
1 stick unsalted butter (melted)
1/3 c quick oats (NOT instant oatmeal)

Your going to use an 8×8 pan to cook this in. First you need to grease your pan with either cooking spray or melted butter, then preheat your oven to 350.  Then you need to cut the apples into thin slices, I found that you get about 8-10 slices per apple.  When your done cutting then put a layer of apples on the bottom . Mix your sugar and 1.5 tsp of cinnamon in a small pour. Pour some of this mixture onto your layer of apples.  Do another layer of apples and the sugar mixture until you have used all of your apples.  Mix the apple-cinnamon mixture together with your hands until it is well combined.  Next you are going to mix the remaining ingredients in a medium mixing bowl (flour, brown sugar, butter, quick oats, and remaining cinnamon). Mix this with your hands and it should become very crumbly. You are going to mix about a handful of the mixture with the apple mixture.  Then pour the remaining crumb mixture on top of the apples.  This apple crisp needs to cook for 1 hour- I put it in right before we sat down to eat dinner so that after dinner we had enough time ot let our stomachs settle before eating.  Serve with Vanilla Ice Cream & it is even better!!
